Approachable and Affordable Consultancy
Patricia offers several services to Toronto area photographers and artists, whether they are aspiring to commercial success or just wanting to produce more polished work, in print or on-line. Approaching tech-savvy experts can be intimidating and expensive, and the Web is a wilderness of advice and technical detail. Patricia brings it all to the level of the average computer-literate and enthusiastic person. When the digital revolution arrived, she went through it all herself, and enjoys sharing her insights and techniques with other aspiring creatives. She spends much time at her shows telling visitors about her processing, printing and marketing techniques. As people have transitioned from point-and-shoot cameras to more sophisticated DSLR cameras, they are looking to produce more professional-looking work, and to spread the word about it. Amongst other services (ask about them!) Patricia offers:
+ How to use your new DSLR (digital single-lens reflex camera), and what it all means.

After an initial hour-long session with your new camera, we will go on a photoshoot together in the Toronto area,, each taking pictures and comparing notes, as you learn on the job all the intricacies of your camera's settings. I'll give you shortcuts, and key tips. The secret is to learn the basics, leaving aside more complex functions, so that you can take great pictures in your very first photoshoot. If you do not yet have a DSLR, we will go over the brands, models, and lenses available to choose a camera that fits your goals.
+ How to use Adobe Lightroom - the software designed by photographers for photographers, to do everything a darkroom used to do, and more. After our photoshoot, we will work together with our laptop computers, to upload our pictures into Lightroom and start learning the basic steps to processing the pictures, with the goal of producing high-quality prints after the first session. The "raw" image we shot on our DSLR cameras are processed into finished images, much as the film darkroom used to produce beautiful prints from baths of chemicals under special lights. Bringing out details in dark patches, reducing "blown out" white patches, carefully balancing colours and tones (without making the image look like a bad 1950s Kodachrome!), cropping to bring out the best in the image, will all be a part of this session. Along the way, we will also explore Lightroom's excellent organizational features, to create collections and rankings of images.
+ How to create a website using this host, Netfirms, in two hours. We wil work along-side each other with tNetfirms' Weebly web-building module to select a theme, create web pages, and upload images. You don't need to hire an expensive web developer to get started!
