In this exhibition, I use several photographic paintbrushes to
capture the ways that a camera can encounter light at the moment the
shutter is pressed. The camera can use time combined with motion, as
in “Time + Wind: East Chop Sunset.” It can put a rainbow in the viewer’s
eye, as in “Colour: Red and Green Macaws.” It can paint dazzling lines as in
“Pattern: Zebras in the Melepo Hills,” and it can create Turner’s ambiance
as in “Atmosphere: Platboombaai.” The camera can look for subtle attributes
of light, such as “Translucence: Rainbow Grasshopper,” and " Irridescence:
Amazilia Hummingbird #1" and “#2.” And the camera can become a
paintbrush itself, as in “Painting with Light: Xaghra Harbour.”
